SUMMARY:The Death Penalty: Ending a Biased System
DESCRIPTION:On June 29\, 1972\, the United States Supreme Court struck down the death penalty in Furman v. Georgia. They ruled that the death penalty was applied in a manner that disproportionately harmed people of color and those living in poverty. Although Georgia reinstated the death penalty four years later\, the majority opinion in Furman v. Georgia is as true today as it was in 1972.
